We're glad you're here. This guide will walk you through everything you need to feel at home with Finn: what it is, why people love it, and how to get started in just a few minutes.

Finn

What is Finn?

Finn is your financial companion that lives in your texts.

Think of Finn as a knowledgeable friend who's always there when you have a money question — but instead of guessing, Finn uses your real accounts (with your permission) to give you accurate, personalized answers.

You don't need to open a separate app or dig through spreadsheets. You just text. Ask things like:

  • "How much did I spend on eating out last month?"
  • "Am I on track with my savings goal?"
  • "Notify me when my checking drops below $500."

Finn answers in plain language, sends you helpful alerts, and can even generate simple graphs so you can see your money at a glance. All through the same chat you use every day (SMS or iMessage).

Sign up

Getting your account is quick and straightforward.

  1. Head to the Finn app or sign-up page and enter your phone number. We'll use it to verify you and to text you — that's how you'll chat with Finn.
  2. Check your phone for a short verification code and enter it.
  3. Complete sign-up (and set a password if we ask for one).

That's it. You're in. You'll land in the app or web experience where you can connect your first account and say hello to Finn.

Ready when you are

Sign up takes about a minute. Connecting your first bank usually takes another minute or two. After that, you can start asking questions immediately.


Connect your accounts

Finn is most helpful when it can see your real financial picture — with your permission, and only in read-only mode.

How to connect:

  1. Open Bank connections in the app or under Skills → Bank connections.
  2. Find your bank in our list of supported institutions.
  3. Sign in with your bank credentials in the secure, encrypted flow. We use a trusted partner; we never store your bank password.
  4. Pick the accounts you want to link (e.g. checking, savings, a credit card).
  5. Confirm — Finn will start pulling in transactions and balances. Most of the time you'll see data within a few minutes.

Your first steps

Once your accounts are connected, you're ready to make Finn useful every day.

Say hello
Send Finn a message. Try "What did I spend last week?" or "Summarize my spending by category." Finn will use your linked accounts to answer in plain language.

Set a goal
Create a savings goal in the app or by asking Finn. Progress is updated automatically from your cash flow. Learn more in Goals.

Turn on alerts
Choose what you want to be notified about — e.g. when checking drops below $500 or when a purchase is over $200. See Rules engine for all the options.
